Z4806 Late 19th Century Redware Apple Butter Jar
Description: Very nice late 19th century apple butter crock/jar. This one has an ovoid shape with a rounded rim and a single tooled line around the upper body. The exterior glaze on this example appears to be a lead and manganese combination creating a dark and shiny surface. The inside of the jar has a nice clear lead glaze creating a pumpkin colored interior. This example doesn't have any cracks or hairlines. There are some drying lines under the glaze that don't transfer to the inside. There is one small chip to the bottom unglazed footed edge that measures 1/4" in width. The glaze on the top edge of the rim is worn with a few small glaze chips and fleabites which is quite common on these.
Measures: Height 5.5" , Outer Diameter of Top 5" , Diameter Across the Bottom 3.75"
