Z4965 Letter from Bushrod Corbin Washington (1831-1919)

Description: Letter from Bushrod Corbin Washington of Charles Town, W.V. to Aurther Ashby Grove of Luray, Va.. The letter is written on the personal stationary of Bushrod C. Washington. It's a letter letting Arthur A. Grove know that he received payment for a copy of the "Laurel Brigade" and would mail out a copy. Bushrod Corbin Washington enlisted in April of 1861 in Charles Town, Va. as a private in Company G 2nd Virginia Infantry of the Stonewall Brigade. He was captured at the Battle of Kernstown, Virginia and taken to Fort Deleware. He was then exchanged in August of 1862 and then transferred into Company B of the 12th Virginia Cavalry. Bushrod Corbin Washington was the grandson of Bushrod Corbin Washington (1790-1851) and is a member of the George Washington lineage. Bushrod was also the editor of the "History of the Laurel Brigade" and lived in a prominent home in Jefferson County Virginia known as Claymont Court.

The letter reads as follows:

December 24, 1907

Mr. Arthur A. Grove

My dear sir, your f.... of 23rd received, with order for a copy of History of Laurel Brigade & enclosing check for $3.00 for same. I send you the book by this evenings mail & ???? it will reach you in good time and good condition.
