Z5014 German Produced US $5.00 Gold Piece
Button / Cuff Link
Description: German produced planchet with a similar $5.00 gold piece face. The back is marked in German with a star. I have seen these as both buttons and cuff links. I have read in numerous places that these date to the late 18th century - early 19th century. They come in several variations although most I have seen have a South American design with a lot of Argentina variations. It's very possible these were produced by Germans in South America. The shank or stud is broken off of this example.
Backmark: "Eingetr Fabrik Zeichen / Star" rm
Measures: 21 mm
