Z5517 Post-Civil War Musket Percussion Caps
Description: Decent full tin of 100 percussion caps manufactured by the Union Metallic Cartridge Company of Bridgeport, Connecticut. This company was founded just after the Civil War and quickly became one of the dominant small arms ammunition manufacturers of the late 19th century. Percussion caps were still being manufactured after the Civil War for use with the large stockpile of surplus firearms on the market. The outer rim of the face reads, "UNITED STATES ARMY CAPS. / WATERPROOF.” There is an eagle in the center with "100 U.M.C.CO.” above and "Bridgeport, Conn.” below. This tin is full, containing 100 percussion caps. The top shows wear and the bottom is soiled from age.
