Description: Decent early war Model 1839 waist belt plate or buckle. This example still retains all three attachments and has the early lead filled "puppy paws” associated with early war campaigns. This buckle is rather typical of those found in fields that have been worked for generations. The plate has a fold line right down the middle of the back and the edges are curled upwards. More than likely this was done by a plow or tilling disc. The back retains nearly all the lead solder with a few spots missing from the edges. This plate was lightly cleaned and is still covered in dirt.
Backmark: None
Measures: 53 mm x 84 mm as is.
Recovered: Shepherdstown, West Virginia
