Z5689 Civil War Artillery Fuse Pack, Rewrapped
Description: Very nice complete rewrapped packet containing five paper time fuses manufactured at the Frankford Arsenal. In late 1862, all paper time fuse production shifted to the Frankford Arsenal for standardization. Jones added a shortened quote in his book stating, "To secure uniformity in size and rate of burning, …all paper time fuses will be made at…Frankford Arsenal.” From 1863-1865 paper time fuses were manufactured at the Frankford Arsenal in a variety of colorful packets with various burn times.
This packet contains five surplus paper time fuses. They are contained in a paper-wrapped, drilled wooden block. The face of the packet is stenciled according to the burn time for each fuse. The fuses are labeled 20,10,10,15, and 15. When these were rewrapped, they were lightly coated with a waterproofing agent for preservation.
This example is in excellent shape with five pull tabs present. It is unopened with very little damage to the paper.
