Z5690 Civil War Artillery Fuse Pack, Rewrapped
Description: Here is a decent, complete rewrapped packet containing five paper time fuses manufactured at the Frankford Arsenal. In late 1862, all paper time fuse production shifted to the Frankford Arsenal for standardization. Jones added a shortened quote in his book stating, "To secure uniformity in size and rate of burning, …all paper time fuses will be made at…Frankford Arsenal.” From 1863-1865 paper time fuses were manufactured at the Frankford Arsenal in a variety of colorful packets with various burn times.
This packet contains five surplus paper time fuses. They are contained in a paper-wrapped, drilled wooden block. The face of the packet is stenciled according to the burn time for each fuse. The fuses are labeled 15,?,?,20, and 20. When these were rewrapped, they were lightly coated with a waterproofing agent for preservation.
This example is in decent shape with all five pull strips intact. You can clearly see the original blue/green wrapper underneath. There is a crack in the paper along the base. If you lightly pull it back, you can clearly see the bases of four out of the five fuses.
