Z5703 .44 S&W Russian Buck Shot Cartridge Box by Phoenix

Description: Scarce empty pasteboard box that once contained 50 .44 Smith & Wesson Russian "Buck Shot” cartridges for use with the S&W Model 3 revolver. It’s a marbled two-piece box with an orange label on top and a white buff label on the bottom. This box is missing the top right side which would have originally held the side label. All seams are glued and show splitting on the bottom and there is tape residue on the top label. This is the Exact example published in the book and the Mexican label on the bottom makes this one stand out. According to Krasnicka’s book, each cartridge is loaded with three flat balls measuring .392” in diameter covered in a green multi-ball sabot. This box comes with a single cartridge. The Phoenix Metallic Cartridge Company was located in South Coventry, Connecticut. It was founded in 1872 and was sold in 1891. A very scarce box!
