Z5778 British Marines / Navy Cuff Button
Description: Nice excavated one-piece pewter button. This one appears to be a water recovery and is missing the iron shank. The face has a fouled anchor in the center with a pie crust border. This variant has a raised ring around the outer perimeter on the back. It was probably manufactured this way to strengthen the edges. This style of button is known as the Pre-1802/1803 British Marine pattern depending on where you look. This same pattern was used during the Revolutionary War until the "Royal Marineā€ pattern was issued. These were also used by the British Navy in Canada up through the War of 1812.
