Z5850 .55 Maynard Brass Shotshell, M1882
Description: Scarce .55 brass shotshell manufactured by The Massachusetts Arms Company of Chicopee Fall, Massachusetts. This example uses a No. 2 Boxer primer. At the time this was manufactured, standard shotgun shells sizes were becoming quite popular. The .55 Shotshell could only be used in the Maynard Model 1882 chambered in .55 which gave an owner very limited versatility. Meanwhile, those who owned any of the standard gauged shotguns could buy a shell from any company based on the gauge they owned. The desirability of the M1882 line diminished rapidly in the late 19th century and the standard gauge sizes quickly took over the market. This example has an oxidized inside with spotting on the case and oxidation on the outside of the primer.
