Z5874 .69 Raleigh Pattern Bullet, A.K.A. Carcano or Garibaldi

Description: Decent example of the .69 Raleigh Pattern bullet with serrations. These were manufactured at the North Carolina Institute of the Deaf, Dumb, and Blind. It is thought that the serrations helped in securing the paper cartridge to the bullet. I’m not exactly sure if this is correct. These cartridges were wrapped in the same manner as a regulation paper cartridge and had paper covering the bullet and powder charge. There is a possibility the powder charge could have been affixed to the projectile and then covered with paper like a standard late war paper cartridge. This bullet is in decent shape with a shallow line running across the body and over the top of three grooves.
