Z5884 Excavated Friction Fit Triangular Socket Bayonet
Description: Decent excavated triangular bayonet for use with an early .69 musket. This example has rust, but the metal is solid. It does have deep, even pitting throughout. This piece is one of two that were recovered from Blackford’s Ford just below Shepherdstown, West Virginia on the Potomac River. This ford was the largest in the immediate area and known as Pack Horse Ford, Boteler’s Ford, and Blackford’s ford. This ford became famous due to what is called the Battle of Shepherdstown which took place in and around the ford on September 19-20, 1862. It would be the last battle of the Maryland 1862 campaign.
