Z6110 Confederate Packet of .36 Navy Cartridges, Richmond Laboratory
Description: Very rare packet of Confederate manufactured .36 Navy cartridges in various states. This ammunition packet has 7 holes in a drilled wooden block. The hole on the end is for the caps and the other 6 holes are for the .36 2nd pattern bullet/cartridge produced at the C.S. Laboratory in Richmond, Virginia.
This packet was pulled out of an estate in Staunton, Virginia and was found wrapped in an old envelope. The wooden block still retains most of the fragile outer paper wrapper. The caps are present and pushed way down into the first cavity. I haven’t tried to remove them. The 2nd slot contains a single .36 bullet, the 3rd slot contains a partial cartridge, and the 4th slot contains another single .36 bullet as well. The 5th, 6th, and 7th slots may have full cartridges as the last two slots are sealed and the 5th slot is partially sealed.
This is one of the harder 1864 issued packets to find with the handwritten addition of "with caps” and the date. This packet could contain up to three intact cartridges, one partial cartridge, two bullets, and the percussion caps. A hard-to-find packet of Confederate cartridges with a legible face. The front label reads as follows:
6 CARTRIDGES
COLTS NAVY PISTOL
WITH CAPS (handwritten)
