Z6243 .35-30 Maynard Sporting Rifle Cartridge (Model 1865)
Description: Very nice post-Civil War cartridge for the Maynard Sporting Rifle. This cartridge is known as the .35-30 with a .35 caliber bullet and 30-grains of powder. The Civil War version of this cartridge has a pointed bullet, and the postwar (M1865) version has a flat nose bullet with a band near the case mouth. These are often seen with the band just above or below the case mouth.

This cartridge is often erroneously labeled as a .37 Maynard cartridge. The true designation is the .35-30. You will often see these .35 "flat nose” cartridges labeled as Civil War period cartridges. Field recoveries from early and late war sites prove otherwise. The only Civil War .35 "flat nose” cartridge I can find a reference to is the .35-30 "Poultney Patent” which is extremely rare, and most were probably destroyed.

Nevertheless, this is an excellent cartridge that will undoubtedly fill a hole in any Maynard cartridge collection!
