Z2334 "Long Live the King" Button, George III of England

Description: Nice, excavated example of the "Long Live the King" button. The face features a British crown on top of a banner that reads, "Long Live the King." Below the banner is a thistle and rose representing the union between Scotland and England. These buttons were manufactured in support of King George the III of England (1738-1820) and are thought to have been produced in the late 18th century. This is an excavated example made of copper with a little silver plate or wash remaining. The shank is missing, and the body is slightly wavy.
