Z7206 MBA 12MM 2” Gyrojet Rocket for Derringer or Carbine
Description: Scarce 12MM Gyrojet rocket with a 2” case. These could be used in both 12MM over/under survival Derringer prototype pistols. There is also a possibility that they were used in a 12MM carbine that hasn’t come to light yet.

This example has a copper-plated steel case with a curved four-port powder metal nozzle. The nozzle is held in place with a roll crimp at the rear of the case and the copper primer is held in place with a stab crimp. This is a fired example. The copper primer is dented, and the nozzle has a little surface rust.

The patent for the powder metal nozzle was awarded to MBA on December 31, 1968, as Patent No. 3,419,230. Its creation stemmed from the Manhattan Project at Los Alamos. The main benefit of the powder metal nozzle was forward thrust.

While the 13MM 2” cartridges are scarcer than the standard Gyrojets, the 12MM size is even rarer. Per Carpenter’s book the 12MM Derringer prototypes weren’t offered for sale to the general public. As of now, no 12MM carbine has surfaced on the market.
