Description: Nice example of the .38 Extra-Long Ballard "board dummy” cartridge. This example was manufactured by Winchester. These were used in the Ballard No. 2 sporting rifles. They first appeared in the 1875 Winchester catalog and were gone by 1916. This example has a round nose bullet with a single knurled cannelure. The brass case has two holes on the board side as well as a wooden spacer rod on the inside of the case. The primer is a Winchester No. 1 oval copper primer.
