Z8045 Confederate Infantry Coat Button by William Bird of London
Description: Choice excavated Confederate Infantry button manufactured by William Bird of London and imported through the blockade. This example has a stippled, old English "I” on the face. Tice states that the William Bird buttons are the rarest of all British-made Confederate letter buttons. The entire button has a dark, consistent patina. The shank is off by about one degree. It would be hard to upgrade this example!
Backmark: Blank with three rings.
Measures: 21mm
Reference: Albert's CS178V, Tice CS1218A3
Recovered: Spotsylvania, Virginia
