Z8103 Confederate 20lb. Sleeved Read Shell, Long Pattern
Description: Excellent example of the Confederate 20lb. "Sleeved” Read common shell. This is the long pattern measuring just shy of 10” in length. It has a wrought iron sabot and would have been fired by a 20lb. or 3.67” rifled cannon. This shell would have had a copper time fuse adapter with a paper fuse. The iron is excellent with even pitting. There are a few casting flaws or air pockets throughout the body. An excellent example of a long pattern "Sleeved” Read shell.
Measures: OAL 9.87” D 3.63”
Reference: "Field Artillery” Dickey & George 1993 Ed. Pg. 280
Recovered: Verbal provenance of Kenansville, North Carolina.
