Z8311 Federal Regulation 1839 Pattern US Cartridge Box Plate
Description: Nice example of a US cartridge box plate recovered on the Rohrbach farm near Burnside Bridge. This example has a few freeze cracks on the face and the outer edges are rolled upward. The back of the plate retains nearly all of the lead solder, and the iron loops have rusted away. There is a tag on the back that states this plate was dug along the Western slope of the Rohrbach Farm Lane which would be the left side of the driveway. It was purchased from Jeff Stouffer for $20.00 on September 19, 1993.
It's important to note that this specific plate die pattern doesn’t show up in campsites used in the Maryland 1862 campaign. This die pattern does fit in with sites used in 1863+. There were several camps in this vicinity after Gettysburg and it may have been lost there at that time.
