Z8379 Early 12 Ga. Allen’s Patent Steel Shotshell 1865 (12A)
Description: Very nice example Allen’s patented shotshell manufactured by Ethan Allen & Company of Worcester, Massachusetts. These shotshells were used in the Ethan Allen hinge-breech shotguns. This example has a steel case and a flat copper primer. The main improvement to cartridge-shells is the threaded section located on the inside of the case mouth. This was meant to keep the wad in place. Ethan Allen was awarded US Patent No. 47688 on May 16, 1865. An excellent example with light surface rust on the outside. There is rust on the inside of the case from being fired. A nice early example!
