Z8623 Box for .56-50 Spencer Ammunition (Sage Ammunition Works)
Description: Decent and somewhat clean box that once held 42 .56-50 Spencer cartridges. They were originally packaged 7 to a sleeve with 6 pasteboard sleeves per box totaling 42 cartridges.
The .56-50 Spencer cartridge was designed for the Model 1865 carbine chambered in .50 caliber. This box was manufactured by Sage Ammunition Works of Middletown, Connecticut. Barber states this company dates from 1864-1866.
This two-piece box is in nice shape considering the age. Both the lid and box have repaired corners. There are watermarks and soiling on both pieces. The top label is intact and eligible. A great box that would display nicely alongside any M1865 Spencer carbine!
