Z8925 Early Winchester NUBLACK Shotshell Brochure
Description: This is a scarce, early Winchester advertising brochure promoting the "NUBLACK” line of loaded black powder shotgun shells. The "NUBLACK” shells were first introduced in Catalog No. 72 (1905) and were discontinued from U.S. listings by 1935.
Originally offered as fully loaded shells, the "NUBLACK” line expanded in the late 1920s to include N.P.E.s (New Primed Empty shells) and partially loaded options. These shells were notable for their distinctive yellow paper hulls and corrugated brass heads, and they were marketed under Winchester’s well-known "W” brand.
The front of the brochure features a beautifully illustrated mallard duck in flight above two bright yellow Nublack shells. The bold promotional text reads:
WINCHESTER "NUBLACK”
Loaded Black Powder Shells
The W Brand (Trade Mark)
The Yellow Shell
With the Corrugated Head.
The reverse side presents an engaging upland hunting scene with quail being flushed from tall grass as a hunter approaches. It reads:
SHOOT WINCHESTER "NUBLACK”
The W Brand (Trade Mark)
Loaded Black Powder Shells
The Hunter’s Favorite
The lower corner of the brochure is marked "9-10,” indicating a printing date of September 1910.
This example is exceptionally clean, with bright, vivid colors and no writing or stains. There is a single fold/crease at the upper right corner, which is more visible on the back panel and only lightly noticeable on the front. I have included pictures and scans of the front and back of the brochure. Overall, a superb and display-worthy piece of early 20th-century Winchester advertising.
Perfect for collectors of early ammunition ephemera, Winchester memorabilia, or vintage sporting goods advertising!
