Z8941 New History of the Battle of Bunker Hill 1875 by Wheildon
Description: Nice example of the historical monograph titled "New History of the Battle of Bunker Hill, June 17, 1775: Its Purpose, Conduct, and Result" by William W. Wheildon (1805–1892), an American author known for his works on the American Revolution. This 56-page pamphlet was published in 1875—for the centennial of the battle—by Lee & Shepard in Boston and Lee, Shepard & Dillingham in New York.
The book covers the following topics:
I. Purpose of the Battle
II. Résumé of History
III. Preparing for the Contest
IV. The Movement
V. Boston Side of the River
VI. The Engagement
VII. Accounts of the Battle
VIII. Burning of Charlestown
IX. General Warren
X. Remarks on the Battle
XI. Boston & Charlestown
XII. Boston After the Battle
This scarce antiquarian pamphlet is in good condition. There is minor soiling from handling over the years, with more noticeable soiling on the back cover. Most of the wear is limited to the edges of both covers. The spine remains intact, as does the fold-out map at the back depicting the battlefield.
A great example issued for the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Bunker Hill, June 17, 1775.
