Description: Nice example of a .56-50 Spencer rimfire variant. This cartridge was primarily used in the Model 1865 Spencer carbine, though it was also compatible with a few other firearms chambered for the ".50 Carbine” cartridge. This is a commercial cartridge manufactured by the Union Metallic Cartridge Company of Bridgeport, Connecticut.
This example has a flat nose bullet roll crimped into a tapered copper case. It has the impressed "U” headstamp which is thought to have been used starting in 1885+.
This example has a lightly oxidized bullet with a few spots on the copper case. A nice clean example of a commercial cartridge manufactured for use with the surplus Indian War firearms.
