Z8974 .45-70 Rifle Lowell Contract Cartridge (R/L/3/80)
Description: Nice, .45-70-405 rifle cartridge manufactured by the United States Cartridge Company of Lowell, Massachusetts. This example has a lead bullet and a copper case with an external Boxer primer. These contract cartridges were some of the earliest reloadable centerfire cartridges starting in 1879 and ending at some point in 1880. This example is in nice shape with a .064” head thickness. Plenty of these have been found on the frontier proving they were issued in the field. An excellent Indian War cartridge!
