Z8981 Winchester .58 Brass Shotshell N.P.E. 2-1/8”
Description: Nice example of a .58 Winchester N.P.E. (New Primed Empty) shotshell manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. These shells first appeared in the May 1881 catalog and were listed until 1917. They were intended for use in surplus .58 Berdan conversion muskets and were packaged 25 per carton, sold initially as unloaded shells and later as factory-loaded shotshells.
This example measures 2 1/8" in length and uses a No. 2 Winchester Improved primer. It features the ringed head with a small ".58” marking—one of three known headstamp variants. The shell is in very nice condition, showing only a few minor spots on the brass case. The interior is exceptionally clean.
