.56-56 Spencer “Dummy” Cartridge Box by U.M.C. (Published)
Z9042 .56-56 Spencer "Dummy” Cartridge Box by U.M.C. (Published)
Description: Very fine example of the rare .56-56 Spencer "Dummy Cartridges” box. This empty box was originally manufactured for the Union Metallic Cartridge Company (UMC) of Bridgeport, Connecticut. Shot, blank, and dummy cartridges were typically packed in standard UMC boxes and then over-labeled to indicate their specific contents. This particular example features the scarce "Dummy Cartridges” overlabel and is the exact box published in Spencer Repeating Firearms by Marcot (page 213).
The box retains both original top and bottom labels. Most of the side seal label remains intact, with only minor losses. The surface shows minimal soiling, and the interior is clean. The outer edges have typical wear, and there are two small holes along the top edge of the lid.
This is an excellent example for the advanced Spencer or early UMC collector, especially given its published provenance.
