Z9118 Confederate Infantry Coat Button – HT&B
Description: Nice example of a Confederate two-piece Infantry button. The face displays a bold Roman "I” with a stippled interior, set on a plain field with a false border. The backmark on this specimen is that of Hammond, Turner & Bates, an English firm that supplied military goods to the Confederacy. These buttons were shipped through the blockade, and excavated examples have been recovered in Confederate-occupied camps—evidence that at least some shipments successfully made it into service.

This button retains a smooth, dull surface with light traces of gilt on the face. The reverse still shows some of its original silver-plated finish down in the recesses. The shank is pushed downward but remains intact, though it moves slightly. Overall, a solid and appealing example at a very reasonable price point.

Backmark: *H T & B */ MANCHESTER” dm with an outer ring of dots.
Measures: 24 mm
Reference: Albert CS171, Tice CSI200A1
