Z9194 13mm Gyrojet Cartridge with Four Ports
Description: Decent example of the scarce 13mm Gyrojet rocket cartridge. This specimen features a copper-plated steel case with a four-port steel nozzle, also copper-plated, and a central copper primer. The angled ports were engineered to impart spin to the projectile, stabilizing it in flight. A single cannelure secures the nozzle firmly in place.
The Gyrojet was developed in the mid-1960s by MBAssociates as part of an ambitious series of experimental rocket-propelled small arms. Unlike conventional ammunition, the Gyrojet fired a miniature rocket rather than relying on expanding gases within a case. While highly innovative, the design suffered from problems including limited velocity at close range, variable accuracy, and high production costs, which prevented its adoption by military or law enforcement forces.
Today, Gyrojet cartridges are prized by advanced collectors as rare and historically significant curiosities from the Cold War era of experimental ammunition. This example remains in nice condition with natural uneven toning and light spotting to the case, making it a solid representative of this short-lived but iconic design.
