12 Ga. Western Super-X Mark 5 Window Shotshell
Z9274 12 Ga. Western Super-X Mark 5 Window Shotshell
Description: Nice 12-gauge Western Super-X salesman sample "window” shotshell. This example features the Mark 5 collar, a design introduced in the early 1960s. The red paper case is finished with a six-petal crimp, with one side cut away in a clear "window” to reveal the internal components of the load. The opposite side retains strong wall print reading:
"WESTERN / SUPER X / 6 / MARK 5”
The high brass cup shows one upper corrugation and three lower corrugations, fitted with a punched brass primer. The shell remains in minty condition, with the paper tube retaining its original waxy sheen.
Produced as salesman’s samples to showcase Western’s construction features to dealers and customers, these "window” shells are now highly sought after by collectors. Early paper-bodied examples such as this are especially desirable—a solid addition to any advanced Western or window shell collection.
