Z9350 Lot of Three Lawrence Primer Tubes for Sharps Firearms
Description: Nice lot of three Lawrence primer tubes for Sharps rifles and carbines. Two tubes are full of primers; one is empty and contains only the original wooden dowel. Two of the full tubes appear to be overfilled and have a small square-headed nail driven into the wooden dowel to retain the primers. I’ve seen this style of tube housed in both the early black-label rectangular tin and the round tin.

These improved pellet primers were manufactured under Patent No. 9,820 (June 28, 1853) and were used in conjunction with Patent No. 9,308 (Oct. 5, 1862) for an updated priming method. A charger would be inserted into the mechanism and the wooden chuck (piston) pushed down, loading 20+ primers into the feed system.

Each tube shows oxidation and spotting. The small square-headed nails have surface rust. The brass tubes show small dents and a slight curvature (normal period wear). A decent lot for collectors or to fill an early tin.
