Early .32 C.F. Short Ammo Box by Winchester - Empty
Z9390 Early .32 C.F. Short Ammo Box by Winchester - Empty
Description: Decent example of one of the earliest .32 Short Centerfire black powder cartridge boxes manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. The .32 C.F. was a popular cartridge and was also adapted for Colt, Whitney, and Tranter double-action revolvers. According to Giles & Shuey, this box dates to around the mid-1880s.
The cartridge depicted on the top label shows a single grease groove and a headstamp surrounding the primer. Just below the image is the "Central Fire” callout.
This two-piece box is in decent overall condition. The top label is legible, and the side seal is mostly intact and readable, with a few small areas missing. There are small pieces of tape concentrated around the corners and ends. The bottom label is partially legible, with a split across the pasteboard running through the label. The interior lid label is intact and legible. The box has been filled with a foam insert for protection.
Overall, this is a nice early Winchester box that would display beautifully alongside a mid-1880s double-action revolver chambered in .32 Short Centerfire.
