Z9374 Scarce Early Gunpowder Charger or Capsule
Description: Here’s a rare accessory you don’t see often: an early pre-measured gunpowder charger measuring just over an inch in length. This small tin tube held a pre-measured amount of black powder for use with late 18th-century to early 19th-century cased pistol sets.

The tube’s ends are each capped with a small tin disk and sealed with wax or varnish, which kept the charge dry and protected from the elements. When needed the shooter would remove the cap, pour the powder into the muzzle or pan, then ram the ball home. I’ve seen these in several lengths, so some were likely intended for pistols while longer examples may have served hunting rifles. These were typically single-use and often discarded after firing, which makes surviving examples uncommon.

This item is intact and sealed at both ends; surface shows age-appropriate wear and finish loss consistent with period items. A rare, original accoutrement that will complement a cased dueling pistol or early percussion set.
