.56-52 Spencer Rimfire Cartridge – C.D. Leet
Z9634 .56-52 Spencer Rimfire Cartridge – C.D. Leet
Description: Nice example of a .56-52 Spencer rimfire cartridge manufactured by Charles D. Leet of Springfield, Massachusetts. The .56-52—also known as the No. 52 rimfire—was introduced in early 1865 and was intended for use in the Model 1860 Spencer carbine and rifle as well as the later Model 1865 carbine.
This specimen features a flat-tipped bullet with two exposed grease grooves (cannelures). The bullet is seated in a necked copper case and secured with a segmented crimp, a characteristic feature of Leet’s production.
Overall, this is a clean example with a lightly oxidized bullet and a few scattered spots on the copper case. There is a single mark on the center ring on one side, and the headstamp has been highlighted. A solid representative of a commercial C.D. Leet–manufactured .56-52 Spencer cartridge.
Headstamp: "C.D.L.” with two tic marks.
