Z9709 .56-52 Spencer Rimfire Cartridge – Four Tick Marks
Description: Nice example of an early .56-52 Spencer rimfire cartridge. The .56-52 (also known as the No. 52 rimfire) was introduced in early 1865. The manufacturer of this particular example is unknown.

This round features a flat-tipped bullet with two exposed grease grooves (cannelures). The bullet is roll-crimped into a slightly bottlenecked copper case. Notably, the head shows four tick marks—three are prominent, while one is very light.

The cartridge could be chambered in both the M1860 Spencer carbine and rifle, as well as the M1865 carbine. This example displays minimal oxidation on the bullet, with only a slight flat bump on the side of the nose. The copper case has darkened with age and shows some spotting.

Headstamp: None with four tick marks.
