Z9877 .56-50 Spencer Rimfire Cartridge – Medium S.A.W. Headstamp
Description: Nice example of a .56-50 Spencer Carbine rimfire cartridge manufactured by the Sage Ammunition Works of Middletown, Connecticut. These cartridges were designated the ".50 Carbine,” were used in the Model 1865 Spencer Carbine, the Palmer Bolt-Action Carbine, and the Triplet & Scott Repeating Carbine.

This cartridge features a flat-tipped bullet roll-crimped into a copper case with three bullet-seating crimps located approximately 0.375" below the case mouth. The bullet shows light oxidation, and the case has a darkened patina with spotting from age.

This example bears the medium-style impressed S.A.W. headstamp, one of three known size variants—the others being slightly larger and smaller. A fine representative example that would nicely complement a collection of Spencer or Sage Ammunition Works cartridge variations.
