12 Ga. Western Field Window Shotshell
Z9895 12 Ga. Western Field Window Shotshell
Description: Decent example of a 12 Gauge Western "FIELD” window shotshell. This cartridge features a white top wad with red printing that remains clearly legible, secured by a neat roll crimp. The red paper case shows scattered fading and spotting but remains solid. A clear cutout "window” reveals the internal components, showing the powder charge, wads, and shot load. This example represents FIELD branded shells manufactured by Western between approximately 1914 and 1925/27.
The shell is loaded with 1 1/8 oz. of #6 shot over 3¼ drams of DuPont powder. The white top wad clearly notes the load details and is firmly held in place by the tight roll crimp. The brass head features a band of checkered corrugation, a characteristic style element seen on Western shells of this period.
Window shells from Western’s FIELD line are sought after by both shotshell and advertising collectors, and this example represents a solid representative of Western’s early 20th-century production.
