Z9905 8mm French Le Protector Cartridge – Gevelot & Gaupillat
Description: Excellent example of an 8mm cartridge manufactured by Gevelot & Gaupillat of France. This cartridge was produced for use in the French System J.E. Turbiaux "Le Protector,” manufactured in the early 1880s as a compact, multi-shot palm pistol intended for discreet personal defense. A closely related version of this pistol was later marketed in the United States under the name "Protector” in .32 caliber.
This specimen features a round nose lead bullet roll-crimped into a brass case. Although it closely resembles a rimfire configuration in outward appearance, it is in fact an internally primed centerfire cartridge. The construction is typical of early French proprietary ammunition produced for specialized defensive arms.
Condition is very nice overall, showing light oxidation spots on the bullet and a few minor age spots on the brass case. A solid example of early European self-defense pistol ammunition.
