Z9957 .50-70-450 Govt. Cartridge Winchester Contract - 1888
Description: Excellent example of a late-production .50-70-450 Government cartridge manufactured by Winchester Repeating Arms Company of New Haven, Connecticut. This example features a flat-nose lead bullet roll-crimped into a brass case with a brass primer.

This cartridge was produced under a commercial contract for the U.S. military in 1888. Production of the .50-70 continued well after adoption of the .45-70 as the standard U.S. service round in 1873, with the .50-70 remaining in use among various state National Guard units into the late 19th century.

This example exhibits a light, even patina with a few scattered spots on the brass case. The headstamp is clear, with the month positioned at the 9 o’clock orientation.

A solid example of a late-contract .50-70 Government cartridge produced by Winchester.
