M142 Gambles Airway .22 Long Rimfire Ammunition Box
Description: Nice, full, and correct box of .22 Long rimfire cartridges manufactured under the "GAMBLES” department store brand name. Gambles was a private-label retailer that marketed ammunition under its own trade names, while the cartridges themselves were produced under contract by established ammunition manufacturers.
This one-piece box features a red, white, and blue design with white and blue printing. The box retains both end flaps with a thumb cutout on the right-hand side, and each end flap is marked with the "End Flap B” warning. Boxes of this red style were typically loaded with high-velocity ammunition.
The cartridges are loaded with lead bullets seated in brass cases bearing an impressed "A” headstamp. These cartridges are documented as having been manufactured by Federal Cartridge Company beginning in the 1930s. While an exact end date for production has not been located, examples of this style are generally believed to date prior to 1960.
The box itself shows only minimal wear and light soiling. The colors remain strong and vibrant, with only a few very minor pushes along the edges of the paperboard. Overall, this is an excellent example of a high-velocity box of Gambles Airway .22 Long rimfire ammunition.
