M148 Sealed .50 Remington Army Pistol Ammunition Box – M1871
Description: Full and sealed box containing ten .50 Benet-primed centerfire cartridges for the U.S. Model 1871 Remington "Army” Pistol. This packet was manufactured at Frankford Arsenal during the early 1870s.
Unfortunately, the date, which was originally printed on the lower right portion of the lid, has been removed. While the exact reason for this practice remains uncertain, it is commonly encountered, as many surviving examples are missing the date in the same manner.
The packet is constructed of paste board wrapped in protective paper that was coated to help resist moisture and field wear. It retains the original pull string, and although the top seal is broken on two sides, it remains sealed across the back edge and partially across the front edge of the box.
The box itself shows honest age and handling but remains solid overall, with strong labeling and good eye appeal. A very nice original example of scarce Frankford Arsenal-produced .50 Remington "Army” pistol ammunition.
