Z5602 30-Bore Calisher & Terry Carbine Cartridge
Description: Very nice 30-Bore or .537” for use with the Terry’s Patent Type II Carbine. This cartridge was manufactured by Calisher & Terry located at 22,23, and 24, Whittall St. Birmingham and 28, Norfolk St., Strand, London. These carbines were predominately used by British Cavalry forces, but some were imported and used in the American Civil War. Both Jefferson Davis and J.E.B. Stuart had one during the war. Interestingly, this cartridge is manufactured and wrapped just like the British "Monkey Tail” cartridges. This example is in excellent shape with light soiling. The outer wrapper is intact, and the original pull tab is in excellent shape. I have included pictures of the packet as well as a photo of one out of the wrapper. Neither of these are for sale nor are they included. The cartridge within the wrapper consists of a felt wad at the base, wrapper and powder in the middle with an Enfield style bullet. Based on others I have seen; this packet slightly postdates the American Civil War but it’s still a near perfect representative example for any Confederate cartridge collection. A hard-to-find cartridge!
