Z5771 U.S. 1873 Pattern Bayonet Scabbard

Description: Decent "attic” condition Indian War era bayonet scabbard. This piece was recently pulled out of an attic in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. It’s still caked in dirt and is in "as found” condition. This style of scabbard is known as the 1873 patter for use with the triangular socket bayonet for the M1873 Trapdoor Springfield.

This style of scabbard has a swiveling belt loop, a steel body, and a US escutcheon. The scabbard is attached at the collar by two ears bent over the leather and secured with a single steel rivet. The leather shows significant cracking/crazing and the belt loop is pushed forward. This piece is still covered in dirt and has not been cleaned!

Measures: Steel Body 18 ¼” OAL 20” 3.5”
