Z8807 Rare Leet & Hall .31 Pocket Revolver Ammunition Packet
Description: This is a very rare packet of Civil War .31 caliber combustible cartridges manufactured for the firm of Leet & Hall of Springfield, Massachusetts. Leet & Hall was a short-lived partnership formed between Charles D. Leet and Willard M. Hall in January 1863. By July of that same year, the partnership had dissolved, making any ammunition produced under this name extremely scarce.
This wood block packet contains five .31 caliber cartridges, intended for use in Colt, Whitney, or Remington "Pocket Model” revolvers. The block is wrapped in its original paper label, and the linen pull string remains intact. These cartridges were manufactured under Julius Hotchkiss’ patent, dated February 11, 1862, which covered improvements in skin (combustible) cartridges. Production was carried out by D.C. Sage & Company of Middletown, Connecticut.
D.C. Sage manufactured four types of cartridges for Leet & Hall: the .31 Pocket, .36 Police, .36 Navy, and .44 Army. The only documented government contract was for .44 Army cartridges, delivered in July 1863, making the other three variants—like this .31 packet—exceptionally rare.
This packet is in excellent condition with minimal soiling. It is wrapped in cellophane and still retains Terry White’s sticker on the back. If you have a pocket model manufactured in 1863 and want a matching 1863 packet, this one is for you! An exceptional packet from an exceptional collection of Civil War combustible cartridges!
