Z4696 Minty .44 "Pressed Waterproof" Colt Army Cartridge (Hazard Powder Company)
Description: Here is a minty .44 cartridge by Hazard Powder Company. These are normally cracked beyond belief or the powder casing has completely separated from the bullet. These were manufactured under patent# 34,725 that was awarded to R. Ogden Dormeus and Bern L. Budd of New York, NY on March 18, 1862. The cartridge is made of compressed powder and is firmly affixed to the bottom of the bullet. The outer waterproofing layer was manufactured under patent#34,744 which was granted to the same individuals on March 25, 1862. The outer layer which protected the powder from moisture is a thin layer of collodion.
