Z4935 Scarce Unpublished Photo of St. George's Chapel Ruins (Charles Town, West Virginia)
Description: Scarce unpublished photo of the St. George's Chapel ruins. This photo was taken in 1908 by an unknown photographer. The walls are still standing whereas only one section is left standing today. The photo does have some issues but these local photos are hard to find.
The back reads as follows:
"St. Georges Church was built 1747. Here Freeborn Garrettson while pastor on Frederick circuit 1776 crossed the Potomac and organized a class. George Washington & his brother frequently attended this church and President Madison was married within its walls."
The back reads as follows:
"St. George's Chapel on mile from Charles Town. Taken Mar. 1908"
