Z5080 Centennial Token Commemorating the Burning of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania

Description: Nice coin/token commemorating the burning of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, July 30, 1864. The face of the token depicts a building on fire with three men watching. The top of the face reads, "BURNING OF CHAMBERSBURG" and the bottom reads, "JULY 30, 1864." The center of the reverse reads, "THE ONLY / NORTHERN TOWN BURNED BY / CONFEDERATE TROOPS DURING / THE CIVIL WAR / *** / DESTROYED: 537 BUILDINGS, / WITH LOSSES TOTALING / $1,628,431.58." The outer edge of the reverse reads, "CIVIL WAR CENTENNIAL 1864-1964 / CHAMBERSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA." This example still retains quite a bit of the luster with some wear to the high spots.

Measures: 33.9 mm in diameter
