Z5154 Stoneware Wax Sealer Attributed to Swank Pottery of Johnstown, Pennsylvania

Description: Here is a very nice ribbed canning crock or wax sealer. This one is in better condition than most I have had. This piece was manufactured by pressing/molding the piece giving it the distinct ribbed sides Swank pottery is known for. Jacob Swank perished in the 1898 Johnstown, Pennsylvania flood. His sons continued the business for many more years. This piece has a very nice light brown/gray color with salt-glazed exterior and a Albany slip glaze interior. There is one very small chip on the bottom of three ribs along the bottom. There are a few small chips around the top outside edge. There are some drying cracks around the top interior edge where the wax seal rim. These are glazed over and are present on every single one of these I have had. I would suspect it's from quickly drying prior to glazing the piece. Most of these are a light yellow to brown color. This example is the first I have seen in this shade of color.
