Z5285 Lawrence Primer Tube for M1852, M1859, M1863 Sharps Rifles & Carbines
Description: Here is a very nice Lawrence primer tube or charger for the Sharps rifles and carbines. This charger is made of a brass tube, a dowel, a wooden chuck or piston, and a row of patented Sharps pellet primers. These improved pellet primers were manufactured under Patent No. 9,820 dated June 28, 1853. These were used in conjunction with Patent No. 9,308 which was awarded on October 5, 1862 for a new method in priming firearms. The charger would be inserted into the mechanism and the wooden chuck or piston would be pushed down loading 20+ into the feed system. Once unloaded, the spent charger could be removed leaving the pellet primers in place. This example has over 20 pellet primers and still retains the wooden chuck or piston. There is some oxidation on the brass tube.
